The Long Road to Moscow
5th Cuirassiers, Napoleon's Grande Armee, circa 1812
Original Watercolor, 30" x 24" PRICE: $ 6,500.00
Cuirassiers were big men on big horses. They wore the last vestiges of armor ever to be seen on the European battlefield. Napoleon kept mass reserves of heavy cavalry, which were used in hammer-like blows at opportune moments in closely contested engagements, thereby often swaying the outcome of the battle in his favor.
